both , they actually do fight and sometimes even hit each other for real ( lightly ) but the entire thing is pre, planned , scripted and choreographed and they both know who will win and who will lose the match beforehand
it is real"ly entertaining at times though if the writing and choreography are well done and the characters they are playing are fun to watch - that's why the 1980s and early 90s was the golden age of pro wrestling , great characters like the rock , hulk hogan , mr perfect , brett hitman hart , a younger triple H and mean gene okerlund were fun to watch and had great backstories and interplay between themselves
The "wrestling" is fake (of course).
HOWEVER, even though everything is acted out, the wrestlers actually train hard to look big and muscular. Yes, some do take steroids but they eat a lot of carbohydrates and calories a day to maintain their physique.
