He do that because pro wrestling is about getting reactions. Besides, you expect him to run away crying over it? It's called heat, and it's expected of every wrestler.
Cena probably will never change his gimmick. From a PR standpoint, what he has going to too valuable of an imagine to change now. He's involved with so many other things outside of wrestling that it would literally hurt all of these other organizations to have him suddenly be seen playing the bad guy.
He has achieved his objective. Wrestlers play to the crowd and booing shows he has their attention.
