It was chance.
The Undertaker was an obvious maineventer from the moment he debuted, and his gimmick, like most giants was that he was unstoppable.
Then you look at the list of slubs he went against at Wrestlemania who were not in his league, Jimmy Snuka, Jake Roberts, Giant González, King Kong Bundy.
Arguably, Diesel may of beaten Undertaker, but he was moving to wCw.
Then, Sycho Sid, Kane, The Big Bossman no winners there.
Next was Triple H, who former writers say was going to beat The Undertaker, but the decision was changed once Triple H vouched for Shawn Michaels, who arrived in no fit state.
Then, Ric Flair, Big Show & A-Train, Kane again, obvious winner Undertaker.
The last real case of beating The Undertakers streak. The Legend Killer, Randy Orton. Former writers say Randy was going to win, but refused to take the honor.
Somewhere at this point a few things happen, The Undertakers streak becomes a tangible thing like a World title, and so it becomes a Wrestlemania draw in its own right.
PPVs were in decline and Wrestlemania was the increasingly big draw, this placed a premium on the streak as a draw.
Having (not winning) a match with The Undertaker, the locker-room leader, and respected veteran, was now viewed as enough to get talent over.
So, Mark Henry, Batista, and Edge made up the numbers.
Followed by the dual respected veteran matches by Shawn Michaels and later Triple H.
CM Punk completed the list.
Now, according to sources within the WWE The Undertaker was looking less able to compete with every year that passed, as so the decision was taken to end the streak.
If I remember right, it was around his 3rd Wrestlemania win that Vince McMahon, while doing commentary (maybe a clue to which WM it was) mentioned him having a winning streak.
It probably wasn't initially planned, especially considering the couple of technical wins he had. Only a few, or maybe just Vince McMahon himself, knows when the idea for The Streak came into being.
the Streak wasn't even the Streak until about 8-0... before that it was just another match in his feud with who ever he went over at Mania...
if you look it up on Wiki you can kind of see the year where he started to face off against Top Card Talent... vs the upper mid card guys he had been
I think it got mentioned around 5-0 but people never thought about until he went like 10-0. The streak was never planned he just happened to be booked to win.
I seriously doubt that in the earlier years of his career that they had any streak planned he was just a big bad guy that kept winning. They only staying mentioning the streak at WrestleMania 15
It probably was about 10-12 matches into it before anyone realized there was a streak going. Then they were able to make a regular deal of Taker defending the Streak.
nope. they didn't realize he had a winning streak until like 2003.
It could have, but I suspect it was at least after a few victories if not even more by chance and decided to take advantage of the opportunity.
yes it was
of course it was
