Wrestling section, what is so special about Hulk Hogan?

He has got to be the most overrated wrestler of all time. All he was was the John Cena of his era, who only got over because he was the most marketable wrestler in his day. I hear some people say "WWE would not exist today if it weren't for Hogan", which could not be further from the truth. Hogan LEFT WWE, went to WCW and helped boost THEIR ratings. No, if it weren't for Stone Cold Steve Austin, who was the face of the Attitude Era, WWE would have lost the Monday Night Wars to WCW, which Hogan helped boost the ratings of, and WWE would have went out of business instead of WCW.

So why do people like this guy? He wasn't exactly that great of a wrestler either. What was his finisher? A leg drop? Oooh! I can do a leg drop too! But unless it's done by Hogan it's weak, right?

He was the right guy, at the right place, at the right time. He wasn't the greatest wrestler in the world, but he had the look, and he was charismatic, and he had the "it" factor. When people say "WWE would not exist today without him" they are largely correct. Back in the late 70's and early 80's when McMahon was going around and signing each territory's biggest names to his promotion. Hogan was the guy that whom they built the promotion around, and it worked. It's not something that most wrestlers could pull off. McMahon signed a lot of guys to big (for the time) contracts (they were not guaranteed however), and McMahon needed substantial income to keep his promotion afloat during those early years, as he was attempting to make the WWE a national promotional rather than a regional one, and having better talent and better production values than anyone else takes money. And as it turned out Hogan was a huge, huge draw for the company.

If it wasn't for Hogan, WWE wouldn't have gotten to the point where it could've put up a fight against WCW. But it can also be easily argued that if it wasn't for WWF's success in the first place, WCW wouldn't never existed as Ted Turner wouldn't have seen that kind of potential in having a national pro-wrestling promotion in the first place.

Hogan was not a great athlete or wrestler. Cena is a better athlete. Hogan was a big guy who used his size for a advantage. What he was great at was Charisma. He was a great promo guy. He was also exceptionally strong. In short he locked like a superhuman and acted like being what I believe was the first wwe superstar.

While plenty of guys could have Filled that Role. But Hogan was the one who did...

and seeing as his contribution, allowed WWE to expand, you can't dismiss him as 'the Cena of his Generation', because there would be NO Cena without him in that generation

He is a real American fight for the rights of every man

He has charisma and everyone knows who he is, because he stands out with his look.

he was the right gay guy at the right place at the wrong right time, brother

he is orange and bald.
