Will Jiu jitsu help me tackle in football?

It won't help, nor will Judo or wrestling, apart from giving you increased conditioning. Both of those require holding, which is a 5 yard penalty in football. A striking art, wouldn't help much, apart from teaching you to focus your blow with a single point of your body, in the case of football, the shoulder, and you can blow people off their feet, as I am sure you have seen, and probably done once or twice.

@ Jennifer, you'll have to excuse KW, when he isn't accepting internet challenges, he finds picking on girls the only time he can feel like a man. Nothing puts the warrior in a boy like a keyboard.

No, more practice with better focus will help you, to be honest im not that familiar with Gridiron set up but i have played rugby union, although we pass the ball back the principles of the tackle should be the same, visual focus on the core/ mid section don't follow the opponents head, don't spread your arms wide keep them in otherwise your weaken your drive, etc here is a good illustration of the basic's once you have that in play you should see improvements in your tackle.

LOL! Ladies and gentlemen.....we have another world class Keyboard Warrior answer!

True KW style is to insult anyone who has a different idea to him!

I think BJJ could be of help through its training by increasing your endurance, practice in a competitive environment and not being afraid of getting in there and roughing it.

KW is right here, i am a bjj blackbelt and have been doing it since i could walk. BJJ does focus on take downs but the main focus is ground work. I worked extensively with a Judo blackbelt and a wrestling coach for a number of years to strengthen my take downs even though i had been doing my BJJ all my life.

Rugby League coaches have professional BJJ coaches work with their team but the purpose for this is not the take down, its the grappling on the ground, unlike NFL where you get them to the ground and let them up. in Rugby League you have to manipulate them and grapple them on the ground to slow their rise to their feet.

Many wrestlers tend to make good NFL players and vice versa so perhaps this is a better avenue, although BJJ, Judo or wrestling will improve you in some way or another.

I don't know, maybe? It seems like a lot of trouble though, learning a martial art just to improve tackles in football. It might help, but BJJ doesn't deal too much with that I believe. I'm sure there are other, easier ways to improve. While your on YA! why don't you ask in the Football Section.

That's tackling, when you hit that guy and he falls down. Not throw the guy on the damn floor and choke him the hell out.

And Jennifer has NO IDEA what he/she is talking about. So don't even bother reading it.

Yes it will! Idk what keyboard warrior is talking about I was in it for three years and what the main point is to take your enemy down so basically it deals with tackles.

I play wide receiver and Cornerback and I am the worst tackler on my football and i was wondering what would help me get better, i heard from a friend who said Brazillian jiu jitsu was helpful for him and i want to know if thats true and if not what else would be helpful like boxing, mma, lacross etc? I am also weight lifting and doing track to stay strong and in shape.
