Why don't people care about baseball anymore?

like they did before the 2000s

While I'm not a big fan of baseball (only care in the run-up to the post season), the game is still popular. While the ratings for Nationally televised games is down, fans still tune into regional action.

A few reasons for the decline in interest of Nationally televised games.

1) They try to show some on Saturday and only College Football & Saturday Night Live remotely does well.

2) There is a lot more television options on Sundays (quality programming) that takes away viewership of Nationally televised games.

3) Baseball shifted a lot (if not all) of the in-town match-ups from Sunday to week-days.

4) Nationally televised games are over-saturated (and way to focused on the Yankees..particularly in a bad season).

5) Season is way to long for the casual fan & most of the games are not "must see". The importance of any game isn't very high in baseball until the end of the season (September) and by then they are competing with the NFL.

6) Previous numbers were inflated because of the interest created by steroid / hgh users who were smashing records. That increased the viewership of casual fans who would normally not pay attention.

I live in San Francisco... almost everybody is a Baseball Fan!!!

they do.

baseball attendance numbers and regional revenues are way up...

unless you're one of those people who associate degenerates betting or watching personality-driven reality dramas with "caring"..

People do, you may be just hanging out with the wrong people.

There are still many fans,

There are other distractions nowadays.......!!

like they did before the 2000s
