Why do people love cheap trick martial arts?

At least they're one step closer than people who believe WWE and soap operas; they got off the couch. Or maybe they are the same people and did get off the couch...hmmm.

Because people don't go from research to martial art schools they go from cinema and video games. In short they go with an unrealistic idea of what learning a martial art should be like. Less than honest teachers prey on that and give those potential students what they imagine no matter how far from the truth it is.

I see two things in relation to your question:).......The one is the fact that some people tend to use some dishonest ways to market things, thinking that they will sell more like this, and the second is the natural disagreement that many people have to a different kind of training than their own.:)

Ay, I know what you mean. It might be just bc they are new to the whole martial arts scene and haven't begun to understand what makes a truly great martial artist or what is actual working self defense. I was kinda like that when I was little. Heck, I started bujinkan with the idea that I was gonna be a ninja lol.

In short I would hope the practitioner would eventually "wise" up and realize their place of learning is flawed. And it is truly amazing how misguided a persons brain can be. Facts may be provided in various ways and the human mind will refute it.

People are strange...

When you're a stranger, faces look ugly when you're alone....

Sorry, quoting the Doors.

I think people just need to do a bit more research on whatever Martial art they are deciding to take up. I remember I was walking around my local town once and I came across 2 people handing out leaflets to do with there Karate class and it said on the leaflet "as seen in the dark night rises!"

They think it looks flashy. I know a few guys that took "Karate" because it was Flashy, you'll rarely find legit Karate these days. Best chances are a Japanese guy teaching it.

So I see these chain schools which are worthless claiming to be a 2000 year old "Karate" from China and people give them $200 a month without blinking or thinking why China would have an Okinawan Art. There are adult classes that do not practice hitting anything harder than a Muy Thai bag (if you are an adult and do not do makiwara do not call yourself a Karateka). Prearranged sparing for black belts are done slow rather than at full power, speed, and intent. "Self-defense" drills begin like a sparing match rather than from natural positions. Then there are the weapon classes which use twirling batons and call them bo. Are people that misguided? Please don't just say yes!
