Who will be the next MLB commissioner?

The obvious "name" would be Joe Torre... but I honestly don't think he'd want the job or be suited for it.

Torre has risen, deservedly so, to be one of the most respected men in Baseball... but I think he is also highly protective of his own public image. I believe taking on the Commissioner's role would only tarnish his legacy in much the same way fan-favorite players tarnish theirs by becoming failed managers.

Torre is as media-savvy as they come, but I cannot see him taking a powerful stand against the Players Union in any matter and I don't see the owners tolerating anyone who is less than 100% committed to them.

My guess is that it would be another figure-head puppet of the Owners, possibly a current small-marketowner who seeks to "retire" like David Glass or Bob Castellini...or a longtime front office guy like a Stan Kasten, Walt Jocketty or Brian Sabean..

I think the next Commissioner will have some significant, billion-dollar issues on his plate.. so I also would not be surprised if they tried to land a "rockstar" CEO from the business world like a Larry Ellison or Larry Page

Most of the names being mentioned -- Torre, La Russa, Kasten, the mass-murderer who used to be president -- are old men and I think MLB can do better. Turn the job over to someone who is in touch with today's players and fans, but still respects the game's traditions.

Someone like Cal Ripken Jr. or Greg Maddux would be a good fit, or perhaps Steve Greenberg, son of HoF'er Hank Greenberg.

Rob Manfred. He's Selig's right-hand man. Torre recently said that he doesn't 'envision' or 'anticipate' taking over and Tony LaRussa was just named the head of baseball operations for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

HULK HOGAN BROOOOOTTTHHHHERRRR

ROGER GOODELL WOULD BE GREAT TOO

GOD WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE

JESUS WOULD BE A CLOSE SECOND

HOW ABOUT SNOOKI SHE WOULD BE AWESOME

I used to think Mike Greenberg would be good, but ESPN announcers largely have embraced Pete Rose's cause. I no longer trust him to keep Rose's banishment. Therefore, I'd like to have someone like Paul Molitor.

Tony LaRussa

I think Jeter would be a great choice. I would be on the edge of my seat waiting for Rhodes to rant in 10 years how overrated he is as commissioner. They surrounded him with all the most talented executives to help him out. He would only have been an average commissioner if MLB had a lower budget. LOL!!!

Either Rob Manfred or some other CEO.

Joe Torre

Derek Jeter, just to piss people off.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter, as long as the person is qualified to be a CEO.

MLB should pick a young commissioner because the sport is viewed by mostly older people these days and the sport needs to improve its marketability to younger people.

But.... There are other qualifications.

Any thoughts and Ideas on who?
