Which is a better martial arts business?

10th dan in Shotokan? I would check into that and see who issued that rank. Traditionally only the head of a style is a 10th degree which means there should be only one 10th degree in all of Shotokan but maybe I am wrong and this has changed or he teaches an offshoot style of Shotokan which also would entitle him to hold such a rank.

Other than that give me an old guy in a shed with only a handful of students over a commercial school anytime.

Most places have some sort of contract these days. The standard is that the longer you commit the cheaper the monthly cost is. $75/month is not bad at all. I don't know the quality of the instructors at your place but I would be very careful with these ranking systems. 10th dan sounds ridiculous. But honestly only you can now how it is.

Id go with the old guy.

He is a 10th% and his aides are also well trained.

His dojo may be small but that means that the instructors can spend more time with each student

No martial arts is good unless you want your instructor and you are a man to the instructor will pick your wife even if its messed up.

The 10th Dan claim seems pretty suspect but that could be your error and not theirs. There is only one 10th Dan in a style and he is the absolute head of that style. 8th would be more believable, so I'd double check that. All things considered though, I'd go with the older guy. I'm a purist though so I always tend to avoid MMA anything. Good luck on your search.

There is only one 10th dan and that is Kanazawa Sensei, you can only have one per style and most don't even have one

I wod take liondancer a advice

I'd chose the old guy. Yeah, he probably won't be as fun and he'll probably be nitpicky, but at the end of the day, you'll come out on top.

There are 2 dojo's in my town, both teach Shotokan karate. One sensei is a 10th dan, he is quite an old guy, but he still helps in the classes, he also has a 2nd dan and a 6th dan helping in his classes, which are usually very small, less than 10 students. His dojo is kind of odd. It looks like a shed in his back yard, there are plenty of bags and stuff, some mats, its not the greatest looking inside but I think it kind of works. The price is like 50 a month

The other sensei in town is a 4th dan, and he teaches with his son who is a 2nd dan I think, anyway their classes are quite large, its more expensive, and very commercial looking, there facitlity seems fantastic on the inside though. I have heard that their main focus is MMA stuff though, they have a sperate class for it. the price for karate is 450 for 6 months and its like a contract thing

The first sensei has been teaching my town for over 30 years , the second is a graduate of our local high school, and it would indicate to me that he was in fact an original student of the 10th dan, just like the 6th dan who helps in the class

anyway I am trying to figure out which one would be best
