A first baseman who can't hit wih no power and a bad glove. What wrong Mauer productive days are history. You know the deal it gets repeated over and over. lock um up long term big $ and see them limp to retirement. How about ichiro over there in NY a 6.5 mil 5 th outfielder did he age fast or what ?
Mauer only seemed to be a good player because he was a catcher who hit for high average, and he juiced one year and almost had 30 homers and 100 RBI. Now he's a slap-hitting 1st baseman who can't score or drive in runs, can't steal bases, and has the range of a speed bump.
And people want to know what's wrong with him? He was never that good to start with! You're seeing the real Joe Mauer now. Enjoy!
He's 31 and I agree, I don't think he is fully healed from the knock to the head. It can take up to or even longer than a year.
He had a concussion last year.
I see Mauer on the Ernie Banks career path now - he was a great player at a premium position, but after moving to first base is essentially just padding his career stats.
He's been terrible this whole year. Coming in to tonight's game he's batting .260 With 2 home runs and 22 rbis. His strikeout rate is becoming a problem too as he has already struck out 56 times this season. Keep in mind that he also gets paid 23 million per year.
