What martial art is best suited for me?

I am 5,5 and skinny (featherweight). I want to learn martial arts for self deference, any suggestions

Im so tired of these questions.

Please start by checking for schools near you and then decide which style interests you the most. Since you put featherweight in your description you obviously seem to enjoy martial sports (mma), why not start there?

When you decide to begin training in martial art you have some questions you have to answer for yourself. Are you looking for a sport to play, an art to dedicate a lifetime to, or a quick fix method of self defence? Some combination of that perhaps? Most of us are, or were all three at times. Where do your priorities lie? You must first decide martial art , or fighting sport. The two are worlds apart, although they overlap in several areas, their mindset, and intent are opposite. You have to know also what is available to you. If you have Uechi-Ryu, and Bak Mei in your area, wanting to do TKD would not help you. Of the available options you must decide which one(s) interest you. Then you have to decide (take your time, it's important) which available instruction is the one for you. You can change or quit if you don't like it, but better to stay with the program right through (providing the program is a good one) for the best training. Style-hopping has in my experience cost many a martial artist their potential, so choose wisely, nobody here can tell you what to do for you. So do your homework well. Talk to instructors and students, watch classes, take 'free introductory' classes, make your decision. One more thing, good luc

Nope, no suggestions.

Martial arts are designed to adapt to your physique. Your physique does not in any way determine what martial art you should take. Some people may tell you that X style is good for small/skinny people, but that's not really true as all martial arts can adapt to your body type.

Look into the schools in your area and pick the one with the best instructor. That's really all that matters as long as you train right.

Now go forth, and good luck with your training.

martial arts aren't for self-defence.. self-defence courses are for self-defence.

A martial art is typically something you'll train at for many many years, with lots of techniques and a system which is in some way complete. Self-defence is something that should be short, easy to train, quick to learn. Krava Maga is the closest you'll get to this in 'martial arts' terms. But, again, self defence is actually 98% about psychological factors e.g. where you go, how you speak to people, how you deal with situations. As any bouncer will tell you, if it comes down to a fight, you've messed up controlling the situation earlier on.

That's dependant on what you want to achieve, I took up Taekwondo to get fitter five years ago, now I'm 14, done it for five years, a First Degree Black Belt and went from overweight to underweight and muscular.

There are some great Martial Arts to teach, I've studied a bit of Aikido and that's great for situations against many opponents, compromising of flips, locks, grapples and holds and it's great to practice.

Some of them, like Wushu, are for the more acrobatic student, I'd like to give it a go but I can't find an instructor around.

Go for whatever your heart desires, it's your life.

I think Aikido must be the best style for you. Its one of the famous Japanese style in my country of Japan.

It has lots of dangerous throwings, joint breakers/locks and some other deadly techniques that what can be used in the streets effectively.

It depends on what you want from MA lifestyle ,self defence, sport. the most important thing is to have a good instructor.

for self defense the best would be aikido or judo. aikido is aggressive joint manipulation vs judo is non aggressive body weight control. these both would suit your body weight well for self defense.

im 5"7 and do taekwondo ,best sport ever!
