What martial art is best Karate or Taekwondo?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I want to start martial arts I want to learn to break boards, throw people and striking but mainly kicking what is best I am 13

Two totally different martial martial arts. Both do the exact same things. However, Taekwondo puts emphasis on kicking, while karate (which means empty hand self defense) puts emphasis on hand strikes (not just punches, there are WAAAY more, like palm smashes, tiger mouths, and hammer strikes). Throwing is not the main focus in either style, if you want to go down that route I recommend Brazilian Juijitsu or Sambo.

So, to wrap up, its a personal choice that you have to make. It all depends on the school.

And btw: Taekwondo breaks waaaay more boards than most karate schools. But remember, BOARDS DON'T HIT BACK!- Bruce Lee.

Edit: HMMM someone disliked my answer I'd like to know what you don't agree with whoever you are: Does Taekwondo put emphasis on kicks, and karate on punches? Do boards hit back? Is each school not unique? Are sambo and BJJ not the two hardest grappling styles? What do you dislike?

It depends what you want. Many TKD schools focus on competition sparring which doesn't use low kicks or sweeps and some don't focus on hand to head strikes. Many don't teach grappling or throws. You need to ask a school what they teach.

There are many styles of Karate and some emphasize kicking more than others. Some have more throws and grappling. Some styles emphasize much harder training than others.

You need to go to a few clubs, check out what they do and offer.

That's like asking what's healthier, Pepsi or Coke? I am slightly partial to karate because I am impressed by Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson's transition from full contact Kenpo karate to MMA. He is able to throw spectacular kicks from karate that have all but disappeared from MMA fights these days. He makes it seem like Van Damme wasn't a complete fraud. Also, Lyoto Machida has been able to transition well from Shotokan karate to MMA, so that's good for traditional karate.

It's not the Martial Art. It's the person that uses it. I doubt that you're going to be good because "Breaking Boards" you make me laugh, ha ha.

You don't know what you are good at until you try it for awhile. Try karate first if you want throws. Taekwondo is only good for kicks.

I like Tae Kwon Do. I never took Karate. So I can only base my answer on what I've experienced. I think you should try both over time and see what you personally like.

I have written a thorough guide that is intended to help people such as yourself find their answer easily. You may want to check it out:

Taekwondo is the best,it involve tornado kick, breaking boards and many more

go for taekwondo

Well karate does All of the things above so that's what you should go for.

Rather than both of them why not a style that you have never maybe heard of(maybe) do Muay Thai!!!!
