He was a trained dancer and since the fight scenes were basically choreographed moves, he could do the moves and look convincing after a lot of practice and rehearsals. As for what arts he took up later, I know for a fact he later took up the exercise version of Tai Chi, though not the martial arts style. As for what other styles he studied, I have no idea.
As others have mentioned David Carradine was a dancer prior to being on Kung-Fu. I believe it was his high kicks that actually help win him the role.
Following his star role on Kung Fu he studied Tai Chi.
Sweat pants.
I read he studied some martial arts after Kung Fu tv series, he didn't think he was a master of it but more of a hobby, I mean I have seen DVDs of him training or whatever, I thought he was great, in Lone Wolf McQuade when his men hold Chuck Norris and Carradine hits and kick him and says 'Now this Is my idea of fun' I get chills
it is a shame he never did more training because I thought he was much cooler than Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris put together
He must have had some skill because no stuntmen were used in Lone Wold McQuade, he is able to kick Chuck Norris in the face
