If you're planning on opening a gym you need to know how to manage expenses and plan for operations.
I'd suggest you start with a business plan, work on the financial model, and figure out how much capital to invest and what your cash flow will be.
From there you'll have to decide if you're going to buy new or used equipment or a mixture of the two.
Frankly, if I was opening a gym, I'd see how much used equipment I could buy as there is a lot of good plates, bars and other things that never go bad that are a lot cheaper used than new.
Now with that said, you need to make sure all of the equipment is of commercial quality. Home equipment isn't going to hold up in a gym and people aren't going to pay to use a gym with cheap equipment.
