Are the martial arts seen in the cartoon show The Last Airbender real?

What's another form of martial arts that are similar to the ones seen in this show?

Water benders were based off Tai Chi

Fire benders were based off Northern Shaolin

Earth benders were based off Hung Gar

Air Benders were based off Ba Gua Zhang

Nothing in a cartoon is real.

But you might find it interesting that the boy who played the lead role in the non-animated Last Airbender movie was/is a black belt in ATA Taekwondo (Noah Ringer).

You might also find it interesting that none of the martial arts sequences in the movie had anything to do with Taekwondo (ATA or otherwise).

Just sayin... there's a lot of stuff out there that looks like martial arts. But isn't.

The movie sucks but I'm pretty sure it's 'real.' In the TV series every nation's bending is modeled after a different form of martial arts.
