Which interests you more and which has the better teacher? The best teacher makes a world of difference on how good you will be and how much you will enjoy your training. Nothing is fun if you are not good at it or don't progress. So find the best teacher. Dan ranks are not indicators of how good the teacher will be. Being able to do and being able to teach it are two very different things. Watch the classes and watch the students because this is what you will look like if your train there.

Sports and self defense are two very different ways of training or at least they should be so you need to choose between the two.

If your goal is learn self defense go to the place that is teach self defense. If you goal is to compete n a sport train in the place that teaches towards sports.

Any training improves the odds of you surviving a fight if attacked on the streets. But as stated there are differences between sports and self defense.

It really depends on the school or instructor. Both are martial arts and both do work but with a lot of training. So which ever one you like, go for it.

If you want it for self defense, stay away from SPORT martial arts -- most of them are all about attaining POINTS in a competition and not losing points by "breaking the rules."

THERE ARE NO RULES ON THE STREET!

generally speaking, taekwondo is better in 1 on 1 fights, but karate is better in 1 on more-than-one fights. but both require the same amount of practice to excel in them.

There is 1 sport based Olympic style taekwondo dojo the instructor is 3rd dan and 1 goju ryu karate school and instructor there is 5th dan which 1 should I go for I am looking for 1 which 1 would work in self defence situation and street fights
