Stealing bases in baseball ?

Base stealing, depending on your age level and skill of play can be very easy or difficult. Either way, there are a magnitude of factors to take into account. First, do you have good acceleration and speed. Second, do you have a good sense of reaction. Third, how does the pitcher deliver to the plate. Fourth, how strong and accurate is the catcher's arm.

Base stealing starts before you are even up to bat the first time. As teammates are taking their at bats, watch how quick the pitcher is able to deliver the ball to the plate. Does he throw a lot of off speed pitches in certain counts? Watch the strength of the catcher during "throw downs" following the warm up pitches every inning. Once you are actually on base, you have to get a feel for the pitcher's pick off move. You want to get a lead that will draw a throw, but not enough to get you picked off. As you see how far you can lead off, you provide yourself the biggest advantage possible before you steal. Finally, once you are in a good game situation/green light from coach, you can attempt a steal. If you feel like you got a slow jump on the pitch, hold up and try again on a different pitch. If you got a good jump or decide to keep on going, DO NOT look to home plate. Keep on running and make a good, hard slide!

My advice on gauging pick offs, search youtube for videos of good pick moves. Finally, work with your coaches in developing extensive knowledge in baserunning. Even if you are struggling to hit or field, there is always a place on a team for good baserunners.

Many things interfere with base stealing attempts that result in no stolen base and having to go back to first.

One primary thing is to take off from first as the pitcher is delivering the pitch and have the batter hit what appears to be a sure hit into the gap and an opposing outfielder make a sensational catch just as you are sliding into second base, and you have to scramble back to first to avoid being doubled off.

you only have to go back to the previous base on attempted steal on a foul because because the play is considered "dead" . you get get safe or out on an attempted steal when batter hits the ball foul.

I don't steal bases anymore.

Stealing is wrong. don't ever steal anything.

When should you steal a base ? And when is it not permitted to steal in other words when do you have to go back to the base you were at . Like what type of play will cause me to go back and not get the steal . If you can answer this thank you! :D I'm new to baseball
