math: 25 players x $400,000 league minimum
I am not sure how well you know your facts here, i would like to know your sources on how you know these guys make money. First off, the Rays only get a full house on opening day, 4th of July, and the postseason atmosphere, every other day the average is half full. They also had a payroll in 2014 of almost $77 million. Still big for a team that can only get a full house.
Then Oakland. I am not so sure on them but their payroll in 2014 was around $82 million.
And these two teams have been most likely the best when it comes to wins/dollar.
Do they really need to put a number on how much is needed to be spent, i don't think so. Well... maybe not be forced to. Maybe if you want to keep it competitive but It also makes it kind of competitive. Who ever is smarter with their money wins.
Plus can't we say when teams like the Rays, A's, and Royals winning on lower budgets then their counterparts makes their win seem more valuable and more meaningful? Maybe we should make a budget on the maximum pay (which we kinda do with the luxury tax thing but its not really a max). Maybe $175 million (which the red sox exceeded in 2012), should be the max. And you can't tell me Stuart Sternberg makes more then John Henry & Tom Werner of the Red Sox. And remember Rays did better then the Red Sox and with a smaller payroll, and the A's did pretty good... for the most part against the Angels with their high payroll. All is fair.
Edit: If you don't like it don't watch it, independent ball is cheaper to see. If people are going to buy tickets at $100 then they are. Guess what??? Price of milk is rising...
I'm in favor of this since there are owners who happens to have more money than Steinbrenner has and yet they have the generosity of Mr. Krabs. The main reason why the "small market" teams fails is because the owners tends to keep them that way so they won't have to spend.
When the team produces a good player, come contract time, that player gets traded for scraps. The owners would claim they couldn't afford to pay and yet they can somehow afford to keep the team, what's up with that?
Hoho, Haha, the kid says haha! Why is it that people that are like older don't understand MLB needs a salary cap so mistakes are not made and players like the true blue Cardinal, Albert Pujols, don't end up in LA!
I suppose it's a way to prevent underfunded groups from petitioning for a major league franchise.
They already have. The minimum salary for an MLB player is just over $500K.
Granted, that's probably lower than you were thinking.
the only problem I have with owners is how they made the money in the first place that they could buy a team. theyre probably a bunch of jews, they have an endgame.
As long as that industry continues to earn billions in advertising profit, they will be able to support paying players that much. See this blog for more noteworthy topics, http://bitly.com/1omMNdz .
