Should I quit Taekwondo?

You are contradicting yourself. You can't love something you "lost interest". From what you wrote, it seems you went to class and never bother to practice on your own. Class time is for learning - not practicing. You should had been practicing on your own at least the same amount of class time and I seriously doubt you'd been practice 4-5 times a week on your own in addition to the 4-5 times a week in class. A perfect attendance record is meaningless if you are just showing up and going through the motion. The idea is to LEARN. What you have been doing is basically showing up and letting the teacher tell you what to do - well, your teacher was not on the competition floor telling you what to do was he?

If you want to learn and improve, then stop going 4-5 times a week. That is just a waste time; go 2 or 3 times a week. Start practicing on your own, push yourself, and THINK about what you are doing. What did you do right or wrong in class? What did the instructor say and did you actually understood it? Can you do the technique without someone else pushing you? You didn't win or place in competition because you never learn to be your own motivator.

Forget the black belt or how much you think you invested in the last 5 years. What you should be asking is are you there to learn?

You are going to class too often. Like a few people have already said, you are showing up and lettng the teacher tell you what to do instead of practicing on your own, listening to your body, getting a real feel for the techniques, thinking, visualizing, figuring things out, meditating on your practice so that you can ask better questions. Honestly, unless you have no life outside of class besides school or a job, or you are prepping for a particular competition, going to class that often is not productive for most people. You need time to digest what you are learning. I remember a quote a professor shared with me: "The mind is like the stomach. It is not how much you put into it, but how much it digests".

This is the WORST time to quit. It is ironically, the hardest time to stick with it, but believe me, do not quit right now. Get a black belt . If you want to quit after that, then fine, go ahead. But quitting right now, unless you are being abused or exploited, is a move you will regret later. You are young and have tons of time to dedicate to meeting this goal. The older you get, the less free time you will have.

I think you should talk to your parents about this too. While I don't think they will tell you to quit, they will probably be able to offer more words of encouragement than we can here as strangers on the internet.

I don't think you're going too often - I just think you aren't getting out what you want when you do go. To me, it sounds less like you're losing interest in your TKD and more that you simply don't like teaching. I went through that in my early years of teaching, but it was mostly the anticipation; once I was in class, I was fine. Did you notice your sentiment beginning around the same time you began teaching?

And since you mentioned that you're teaching classes, are you getting paid? If not, are you at least getting a discount on your own tuition? Otherwise, it's like you're being charged twice! Your mother is involved with the organization so I would talk to her about your concerns and what can be done to rectify the issue. I wouldn't quit at this point, but maybe scale back some of your responsibilities (not practice!) because it sounds as if you are being overwhelmed with this in combination with your schoolwork.

You shouldn't feel bad about quitting the sport. You've achieved more than most normal people will in their entire life, if you start getting tired of it there's nothing wrong with that. You should cut the practices down. Practice 1-2 times a week.

Stick with it just a little longer. When you look in the mirror and see yourself looking back wearing that new black belt go over your feelings one more time. You may feel the same, may feel entirely different. But if you don't do it now you will never know.

Go twice a week

i've been practising taekwondo for 6-7 years now, i have a red belt, almost black. But I've lost interest. Don't get me wrong, i love the sport, I have a lot of friends and get good exercise troughout the sport.

But I also have a lot of responsebility, i teach 1-2 groups a week. And that's a lot of work.

I should mention that I'm only 15, and I take my school work very seriously.

The thing is, compared to when i was younger, I'm not looking forward to practise anymore. Sometimes I get mini panic attacts while thinking if going to practise that evening.

I often feel like skipping practise. And to me skipping is very unusual. I'm very presisly. I went about 5 year with only skipping practise once(bc of sickness).

The two last years have been different.

Lately me and my friends have started competing. I've been to the nationals twice, but i never win anything. Not a single match. While my friends win first, second place etc.

I got to admit, that is not fun at all!

I have 4-5 taekwondo practises per week. Thinking about it feels horrible.

But when i want to quit, i feel that I'm in too deep. My parents have spendt an awful lot of money on this sport. My mom is the club's treasurer. I got a lot of responsebility, friends i don't see outside of practise and I'm so close to the black belt. But to get it I need to practise, and thats kinda hard when i just want to hide out in my bed all day to cry and stuff. I know im pathetic.

Sorry about the bad english...
