Martial Arts Belt Ranking?

You were probably correct in thinking it was tang soo do. Don't worry about the belt structure not being identical; this can vary from school to school and many arts have different belts for kids and adults (typically stripes are only used for juniors)

The Tang Soo Do belt system varies from school to school. Don't worry about finding a school with the exact same belt structure; in the end they are only colors. Because you haven't done it in a long time, and you never advanced very far in the first place, you will want to start over at white belt again. With luck you'll catch on quickly and you'll move past white belt soon enough. Tang Soo Do is a great style, so I fully encourage you to find a good school and go for it.

Many martial arts vary the colored belts from school to school. As others said I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I'd say if you haven't trained in several years then you're basically a beginner again anyway.

So start by looking for an art that interests you and has a good teacher.

My suggestion is to visit several dojos and talk to the instructor. Talk to other students and then see about coming back and doing a class or two before you decide.

Moo Duk Kwan is one of the Taekwondo styles. There are at least 75 different Taekwondo styles.

The belt colors and orders will vary from style to style and sometimes from school to school. You are not going to narrow anything down by trying to match belt systems.

....

Do you remember the organization the school belonged to?

Years ago as a kid, I was involved in martial arts at my school. I didn't get too involved in it but I did get the second belt. I have been looking for a class of this same martial arts discipline. I was hoping an expert on here could help me identify which class I took. I remember the rankings were: White, purple (they would attach some sort of tape to the belts starting at purple for some sort of inter-belt ranking), green, red, black. I believe those were the belts. I know there was no yellow or orange belts and this is all I can seem to find. One of the patches on my uniform had the front view of a fist as if it were about to punch you in the face with some korean inscription on it as well. I believe "Moo Duk Kwan Tang Soo Do" or something like that was somewhere on the same patch or possibly on another patch on the uniform. When I googled these, their belt system seems to be different than how i remember it. I might be wrong on my perception that there were no yellow or orange belts in this system, but I know for a fact that purple belt was the second belt you would earn because I distinctly remember earning it. I am pretty sure I also earned a stripe on the belt as I described was another rank within the purple belt where the instructor attached the tape-like stripe to my belt. If someone could let me know what type of martial arts this is and if it is still being taught, it would be much appreciated.
