What would you rather have? World Series titles or fantastic HOF stats you worked hard for on marginal teams that never had a chance?
If he doesn't get the injury bug that is going around big time these days with this current generation of pitchers, then yes I would bet that many years from now Mr. Bumgarner will be a hall of famer.
The "Fame" in "Hall of Fame" (not just baseball's) refers to renown, the immortalizing of individuals worthy of praise in a specific field, not fame in the "everybody knows who that is" sense, so it kind of "is" the Hall of Excellence.
Bumgarner's postseason excellence means he's kind of already done the "hard part" of a HOF candidacy, which is what separates a Hall of Fame player from a very-good player with similar numbers. Now he just needs to play long enough at a good level to accumulate some career numbers.
It's too early to say but if he can be consistent then that's a thought. I' just worried about injury.
The guy can't be TOUCHED in the playoffs…if you get a hit on him if you are KC or ANY team for that matter…you can bet your last dollar you aren't scoring a run…the guy is an INSANELY great first-ballot hall-of-famer in my opinion, bar-none!
Don larsen didnt but yoggi did. Madison got 10 more years or he lacks any chance
They need at least 12 or more outstanding seasons to be considered,
Too early to tell now.....!!
It's way way way way too early to speculate on this.
I know that HOF induction is recognition of a very long career of statistics. But it is called the Hall of Fame and not the Hall of Excellence.
Along the same lines, what about Buster Posey? Thinking of the hardware he's collected in his first 5 seasons - 3 World Series titles, Rookie of the Year, a batting title, and a NL MVP. Posey is likely never to be a stat machine. But his role as the catcher for the Giants is a huge part of all three championships.
