I think it's a good time to start paying attention. A couple of teams have been mathematically eliminated already and teams like Detroit and Atlanta are getting closer each day. I usually begin to calculate magic numbers when they get to be around 15.
In the National League yes. Division for Atlanta and LA. Playoff berth for the Pirates, Cards and Reds. But for the AL, Detroit could start being Cleveland has been struggling. Everywhere else is still up for grabs so magic numbers might never come to play.
About that time for the Dodgers, Braves and Tigers.
Others may have to wait a tad, especially the AL West
and NL Central. Red Sox in good shape in AL East.
Probably not yet. I would say the time to start magic numbers when they hit 9 or below.
LA Dodgers's is 14, with 26 games left to play.
That is usually something that kicks in around September 15th.
Detroit's is 17.
