When I first started, I felt awkward, but I was only imagining it. Everyone was nice.
It will be awkward for you but noone should be rude because you are a beginner. We all started where you started regardless the rank we are now. Being rude to beginners or anyone for that matter in a dojo is totally unacceptable.
Everything you start out in is awkward at first until you get used to it. Your first day of school, your first day on the job,... but that does not mean you don't do them.
So go and have fun. You soon will get used to it and then you will wonder how you ever got along without it.
Even the highest master was a beginner once.
So as everyone else said, if people are rude to you then find another dojo.
Now with that said, expect for people to have fun with you, but mostly they'll be friendly and help you.
Everyone there was once a white belt. And starting something completely new is a little weird for everyone, no matter who you are or what you're doing.
People will not be rude, don't worry. they will most likely be open to helping you, etc. If anyone is rude, let the instructor know.
Good luck.
Feeling weird or awkward is an individual thing. It has nothing to do with martial arts. Some people will and others will not. That depends on your personality and your confidence.
When I first started MMA, it was kind of awkward because I was the only girl in the class, but no one was rude to me. I think it was only awkward because I made it awkward though, but don't worry you'll have fun! Nobody should be rude to you! Have fun! :)
If you find rudeness, find another dojo!
Martial arts cannot be true without discipline & a humble heart.
So im 14 and will be going to a karate dojo for lessons soon. I am a beginner so i will be a white belt. Will it be weird or awkward being new. Or will people be rude because im a lower rank? Thanks so much!
