Is Miguel Cabrera overrated?

Yes

Who was the last player to win the hitter's triple crown one year and lead the league in 2 of the 3 categories the following year after 132 games? My guess is that you'll be spending much of your day doing research. It's funny you say Cabrera is overrated. Overrated to who? You never hear about him on ESPN. You wouldn't even know anybody else played baseball besides Puig, Jeter, A-Rod, Braun, Trout and Harper because those are the only names talked about consistently. What does "former Florida Marlin" have to do with it? It can't be an attempt to put him down based on the franchise he once played for because they have 2 rings. So why even say "former Florida Marlin?" Marlins fans would tell you the same thing, he's the best hitter in baseball today.

Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter in baseball today. That is his correct rating. His production should he stop playing baseball today, would constitute the 78th best offensive season of all time (based on wOBA, which does account for the era in which a season is played). He's #15 for players in the DH era.

What's more, Cabrera could, if he passes Chris Davis, become the first player EVER to win back-to-back triple crowns.

So, unless someone is saying that this is literally the best season ever, or that Cabrera is better than Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds at their peaks... I don't see how you could consider Miggy to be "overrated."

He's only overrated if he's not on your team. But how can you argue with a triple crown. Even more being in contention for a second. unbelievable. The only other time this was almost completed was in 1942. In 1941 Teddy Baseball had won the average with a 0.406 avg, led HR's with 37 and was fourth in RBI's with 120. He was later to win the triple crown in 1942 and 1947.

When the Tigers thought about going after Prince Fielder Cabrera said go for it I'll move to third base or outfield if necessary. He went to third base and is a fair fielder at that position. A team player in that regard.

I wouldn't put him in the same discussion as Williams or Mantle but as a batter he ranks with Yastremski.

A lot of players are overrated, but Miguel Cabrera is not one of them. Yes, he has reached a new level of excellence the last couple years, but he has been a fantastic hitter his entire career and is just now hitting his prime. He won the first Triple Crown in I can't remember how many years, and is in the running to win a second one (even if catching Davis is a longshot).

I think in a discussion of greatest ever players, Cabrera's name would not be mentioned. But he's not overrated, no one called him a Gold Glove or praised his speed. He is simply a very good hitter.

But if we are talking about as a pure hitter, he's more or less up with Pujols, here in the recent era.

I am Padre fan and I have no desire to whack off to Cabrera,,,,,,but, as far as an offensive baseball player,,,Miguel Cabrera has to be one of the best,,,if not best, in a long time. Pujols when he was in his prime was comparable, but I think Miggy is even better.

Cabrera has never won a Gold Glove or been considered a plus fielder.

Straight up no, he's triple crown potential every year and has won gold gloves in the past

Aidan he hasn't won a gold glove check your stats! And no he's not he's everything you want for a all-around hitter.

His numbers say he's the best offensive player right now. Comparing him to a Brett, Reggie, Yount, or one of those guys wouldn't be fair though. Those were the pre-steroid days. And don't say you haven't thought of it.

He's good and all, but is he really as good as people say? I mean I know Tigers fans whack off to him, it's OK, you don't have to deny it, I don't judge, but does the former Florida Marlin really live up to the hype?

People who say yes are crazy just plain crazy

No, he's the best hitter in MLB this year.

No. He is far from overrated.

Alex Rodriguez was better in 2007 so yes

Nope. Not in the least.

No, he's not overrated.
