I need help choosing which martial arts to go into?

Alright so i was wondering the difference between taekwando ( or however you spell it ), karate, kung fu, and moy tai ( however you spell that )

As someone who has done Tae Kwon Do for twelve years, I recommend that you don't go into it. Don't get me wrong - I love Tae Kwon Do and have had some brilliant instructors. However, Tae Kwon Do is basically the 'ballet' of the martial arts world. You can kick high, and your forms look pretty. There is very little focus on groundwork, self-defence or take-down. Unless you stretch REGULARLY, and I mean every day for at least half an hour, there is no point throwing a head kick in a real fight situation. You'll either lose your balance, miss, or pull something. Tae Kwon Do also focuses far more on technique than it does on speed. I highly recommend kickboxing or ju jitsu, as the former focuses primarily on speed and power, the other on throws, rolls, locks, and pressure points. However, if you are looking for mental discipline, focus and a hobby, then Tae Kwon Do is excellent and addictive.

First of all there are thousands of martial arts. you do not look for a style you look for a good instructor and study what he teaches. Many people come here asking the same question you did. The problem is that no style is better than another, but the training may be. Also picking a style is often a disappointment because if you pick one that is not taught in your area you will not be able to study it.

As for the styles you mentioned there are at least 75 different style of Taekwondo (from Korea), about 50 styles of Karate (originally from Okinawa and later introduced to Japan), at least 300 to 400 styles of Kung-Fu (from China), and Moi Thai different styles (from Thailand)

...

Don't worry about the style. The style of martial art that you train in means little.

What you should be seeking is a good instructor - that's all that matters, not the style. The best thing you can do is visit the schools in your area and pick the one with the best instructor and that's all that matters as long as you train right and enjoy it.

Ignore any recommendations, this is your decision.

*Taekwondo

*Muay Thai

Now go forth, and choose wisely.

Taekwondo is quite boring, it's cool because of all the skill people have with their kicks but it does get boring, karates quite good but it's not the best martial art to do, Kung fu's like some crazy **** I don't even know what you learn in that, all I know is that it's crazy, and muay Thai can be quite brutal, probably the best martial art to do, no one will want to mess if you're doing muay Thai hahaha

As others have said, look for a good instructor. A good instructor and good training is what makes a person good at martial arts.

Edit: Keyboard Warrior Only traditional Taekwondo actually spends time on forms, many sport schools of Taekwondo spar very often and it is the main focus of their training. A sport school spends very little time on forms to none at all.

Muay Thai = Kickboxing

The rest is useless in actual fighting

of them do muay thai
