I've been doing martial arts for a while now and I haven't yet come across a single @sshole. You come in there and the guys look tough. Some of them are big, have huge muscles and tattoos all over. And then you get to spar with them and 99% of them are incredibly nice.
I remember this one huge black guy. Sorry for sounding racist everyone. But the guy looked like he killed people for fun. But he was so nice. Humble, easy to talk to and he wanted to teach me. I asked him like 100 questions and we stayed after class for like 3 hours.
The best tip I can give you is to be humble. Do not go in there with the attitude that you have to prove yourself or anything. You are there to learn. That's it. Don't go eyeballing people or anything. Just have fun and ask people for help. They will always be eager to help.
Fight or first day of training?
First day of training was a little bit new to me, but not much. I already came from a martial arts background so I was able to adjust relatively easy. I was nervous the first day, felt out of place, but within a week, I was comfortable and making some friends.
My first fight, I was so nervous and anxious to start I felt sick. Ended up winning by split decision, but I thought I was gonna puke I was so scared. Now, I'm pretty comfortable at it.
My first experience at a MMA place was enlightening. For them
I gained several students from that experience, including the instructor.
Turns out I taught some good stuff they did not teach.
And I also learnt some stuff.
It often goes that way if your mind is open to learning.
Your gonna be approached by a coach that's probably charismatic with people so I wouldn't worry. The first day you might just watch so it won't be bad. If they put you in practice your first day after you get a sweat going I guarantee you'll forget about being nervous. The only thing I remember from my first day is learning the kimura, which got me very excited being I only had boxing exerience.
my first mma experience was not bad though i had previous training in karate then mma it was daunting at first but once you learn the ropes you will get used to it. just shake off the nerves and you will be fine:)
Hope i helped:)good luck
I plan on joining an MMA gym very soon. I have a gym in mind that has got great reviews. I mainly want to join MMA to get in shape and to learn how to fight. I think its beneficial in other ways as well. One of the problems are I'm very nervous. I'm a bit of a socially awkward person, even more when it comes to people I don't know. Also I'm not an athlete so I'm in less then ok shape. I just feel like I will be intimidated by these guys who know what they are doing. I'm probably just being stupid but I can't help it. So how was your first training experience? Were you nervous? Did what you expect it to be like come true? Thanks for answering it will help out a lot.
