I don't think anyone even then thought that Braun had a better season than Kemp. Kemp was flat-out better than Braun, period. But the Brewers made the playoffs, while the Dodgers didn't have a meaningful game during the last two months. And that has to count for something when it comes to MVP.
Don't you just love the BBWAA! They continually walk around with their collective heads up their azzes. This is just another insane example of a job well done! With a little research they would have realized that Braun was cheating. True, the Brew Crew made it to the playoffs and the Dodgers didn't in 2011 but that doesn't hide the fact that the BBWAA is the single most subjective organization on the planet. There really isn't any room for subjectivity in baseball or in any sport.
Because everything isn't all about stats. Usually to win the MVP award your team is going to need to make the playoffs unless your numbers are THAT much better. In Braun's case, I always thought Kemp should have been the MVP, but the writers picked Braun.
Milwaukee made the playoffs and the team made the juicer out to be a hero. The Dodgers didn't make the playoffs and Kemp shared the blame.
Because the Brewers made the playoffs and Dodgers didnt.
