Designated Hitter: Is this a good compromise?

Sounds okay. It might be a little harsh on the full time DH players who are either too old or fat to field, but baseball is not played with just at bat.

If it were me, I'd just have the home team decide to play DH or not.

I assume that you mean whenever the starting pitcher leaves the game the DH also does. Let me give you an example of why that will never work:

The starting pitcher is pulled after getting shelled for 8 runs in an inning and a third. This means his team loses its DH, which means they have to hit the pitcher the rest of the game while trying to make up an 8-run deficit. How many teams do you think are going to find this acceptable?

And saying a new DH must come into the game every time a pitcher is replaced won't work either because teams have a limited number of bench players to begin with. If a team uses 4-5 pitchers in a game it pretty much wipes out their bench.

It's an intriguing thought but I can't see MLB going for it.

Terrible, you think like an NL fan.

My solution, only works in inter league play but stays the same for league games, Play by the VISITING teams rules in inter league DH in NL parks, Pitchers bat in AL parks. When started inter league was supposed to show the FANS the other way of playing, exactly wrong way to do it.

Why is it a problem, the NL doesn't have it, doesn't want it, and its working fine like that?

No need to make any changes here. The DH ruins the game as it was meant to be played.

Eh, that doesn't fix anything.

You're trying to fix what ain't broke.

The commissioner does that plenty already, thanks.

The AL wont abolish it and the NL wont adopt it, so how about a compromise to keep both AL and NL fans happy? This isn't a place to discuss whether you hate or love the DH. I just want your opinions on if this is a good/acceptable compromise.

>>Modify the DH so that whenever the pitcher leaves the game, the DH has to leave as well. The only way the DH can stay in the game is by replacing a defender.

The implications here is that it is adding risk and consequences to the Designated Hitter, which the current DH lacks. Here, the DH cannot simply be plugged in at the top of the order and stay there all game without trade-offs.

AL Fans: are happy because the pitcher will still never bat. The starting pitcher has the DH and relief pitchers have pinch hitters.

NL Fans: are happy because relief pitcher/pinch hitter management and double switches can still be utilized.

What do you think?
