Can i learn Capoeira?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
Hi! I'm Rick!XD

I haven't done Capoeira myself (I've been more into Wing Chun),but I have a good friend who practises it.It does take some time to become good, but to be honest,no one can ever give you a definite answer about that.It all depends on how focused and determined you are.

As for your height,It's not a problem. If anything,5.8 is just fine! I've seen much taller guys (it's the same for girls) who practise Capoeira.

My buddy's gotten rather good in about 1,5 years, although our "score" is still 1-0 in my favor XD <-- Hey,this is just info.Don't let it bother you.I'm positive about you being able to learn Capoeira and I don't see the reason why you shouldn't.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy yourself my lady!

Edit : What archangel said about B-Boy/Girl is true, but it's better to stick to the actual art.Online lessons can also lead to mistakes which are hard to correct when you have gotten used to them,so I'd say, begin and stay in a class.

Same conclusion applies here...Best of luck lady,go kick butt!

Hello Makenzie.

Yes you can. Height does not really apply to Martial Arts.

Now listen. This may sound like a joke but its not. You can actually find BASIC instructions online. Going more advance into will require a class. Doing advance things in any Martial Art with out a strong understanding of any Martial Arts will get you hurt. I learned the hard way ._.

Also if you can B Boy/B Girl (break dance) it would help you because the movements are actually very similar.

ive been doin capoeira for 10 years an it really doesn't matter who or wat u r when playin capoeira, i know schools that teach old, young and special needs people so i doubt a 14 year old tall chick is gonna intimidate them or u, jus have an open mind an have fun cause its a cultural experience that u will love, also there r different styles like angola(the more traditional African style) or regional(the more modern acrobatic style, so dont worry have a blast.

You're not too tall.

You're not too old.

All martial arts are designed to adapt to your body type and physique. Martial arts is also for all ages.

It takes as long as it takes to learn. It depends on the person, but you'll be fine as long as you go to class and practice.

Good luck.

I'm a 14 year girl and i'm very tall for my age last time i checked i was 5'8 and i found a school around my area but i have some questions.

Am i too tall?

How long does it take to get good?

and Am I too old?
