Brazillian ji jutsu vs eskrima/kali?

Who's is better

Better for what? The Filipino arts are specifically intended for combat. They are efficient at that... They are a practical fighting style.

BJJ is primarily competition-oriented, and has somewhat limited self-defense application.

Both will provide excellent physical conditioning. Depends what you're after.... BJJ is a good grouding for MMA or UFC fighting, if you have aspirations for that.

Escrima gets the nod for practical self-defense.

In terms of weapons its obviously kali. There is no weapons training in bjj. If you are talking about wrestling well some kali practioners study filipino dumog which is just as good as bjj so it depends in the fighter. In terms of empty handed strikes its kali because bjj doesnt focus on strikes. In terms of self defense, kali is better because that is what it was made for. Bjj is just a martial sport and is made for 1vs1 fighting. Its for duels, not self defense. So with these comparisons Kali is better for self defense and Bjj is better for competition. It all depends on what you need to study the martial arts for.

@Faraz, there are no Katas in Escrima.

@Riley, Escrima has no relation to the Japanese martial arts. Its not an off shoot of anything, the art is pure. Many of you are terribly misinformed about Escrima.

Well there's a trade off...kali/escrima has weapons training very practical these days but I found there's a lot of forms/kata to remember and some of the unarmed moves will not finish a fight or even cause that much pain...bjj though is practical with no forms I hope but u shld go for bjj without a gi...u can definately finish a fight with a choke or arm hold while ur on ur back! But ud have to train in boxing to quickly improve ur stand up

Both are just off shots of kodokan judo and japense jujitsu which is the better offshoot I'd say bjj because if you find a self defense bjj class its just as good if not better than most of the offshoots out there and can be praticed a lot more without destroying your body as quickly as jujitsu or other offshoots do plus the whole stick thing is gay.

I shall answer your question with a question. Which is better bubble gum or Ham and cheese???
