Fuggedaboutit!!!
Considering playing the shortstop position only and nothing else -
Fielding averages
Jeter - .976 over 20 seasons
Reyes - .973 over 12 seasons
Advantage: Jeter
Considering everything else -
Advantage: Jeter
At least compare Jeter to another Hall of Fame level shortstop. There's an argument to be made if you compare him to someone like Cal Ripken Jr. But Reyes? They're not even close, at any point in their careers. Jeter all the way.
Derek Jeter is a future 1st ballot Hall of Famer. The only way Reyes will be in The HOF is by paying the price of admission.
Derek Jeter, without a doubt.
I hate Derek Jeter. I am glad this is Jete the Cheat's last year, but he is clearly a first ballot Hall of Famer and if you have followed baseball at all in the last 20 years you should know that Derek Jeter was a better player than Jose Reyes, but Reyes was damn good in his own right don't get me wrong.
Considering the hype he received early in his career Reyes has to be considered a huge disappointment. That said, he did not have the advantages that Jeter had, playing for an owner with whom he had a bromance and who would do anything to make sure he was surrounded with the top talent available so that he would succeed.
I think that as far as the numbers go, Jeter had a decided edge but if you're judging them based upon innate talent, then Reyes is the better of the two, by far.
Jeter.
Jeter for sure
Wait about 5 years when Jeter goes on the wall, and then you'll have your answer
Derek Jeter was, at his peak, better than Reyes has ever been, and in his much longer career has had many more good seasons than Reyes has had. Jeter, by far.
I would also have to say jeter
Jeter, no doubt.
jose was a better shortstop
Jeter by a mile.
A-Rod was better than either.
