Am I too old to do MMA/Kickboxing?

Don't listen to these dummies. Training to compete in kickboxing or combat sports is like training to compete in any athletic activity. Sure the training can be rigorous, but you start from the beginning just as anyone else would. Some of the best fighters in the world started training because they felt physically weak or were bullied. If you really want to do it, then do some research on a local gym that isn't full of assholes and bullies and find out what you're made of. Just don't ask for validation from a bunch of morons on the internet. ME INCLUDED! You either do it, or you don't. On another note, I want to train to become a competitive swimmer. I don't know how to swim and I don't lift weights. Can I go to a pool? OF COURSE I CAN!

Possibly, you speak of how much your arms and legs can lift but weights don't hit back, that is a mental issue, not a physical one. As i don't know, you don't know, nobody knows, take it one step at a time (which you will have to do anyway). I mean, if in the back of your mind you want to be the best MMA fighter that ever lived and that is your motivation, fine. But however is the best MMa fighter who ever lived right now didn't start training thinking that way. They started training, found that they liked it enough to continue, then did some light sparring, then did some heavy sparring, then did some easy competitive bouts, then got in some competitions. Anybody who gets in the ring hopes to win some competitive matches or even all their competitive matches, nobody goes in thinking they are going to lose. Prepare as best you can, determine your strong points and strategies so that you can use your strong points, determine your weak points and how to avoid them in the fight and remember your greatest strength is your attitude.

Biru is right. You may have the heart, and you can get training, but you lack the physical condition and abilities. Fighting is extremely demanding. It takes a toll on the body and it's hard day one. Body conditioning goes beyond lifting weights and cardio. It's also about dealing with pain.

Ay, you can overcome and succeed if you want it hard enough, but you're gonna have to work your way up.

When I started at 19, I was 125 lbs about and benching 180. My overall strength wasn't as good as most people, but my cardio and stamina was off the chain and I already had previous training. I could go on when most others were tired. With some work I was up to the bantamweight and benching 210. Not saying this to brag but as mentioned, it's at least recommended you be able to squat or bench your own bodyweight.

Strength is only one aspect of it. Superior cardio and stamina is a must. As well as power through proper technique.

Age does not matter as much as conditioning and you appear to be in poor physical condition by the lifts you cited. You are not squatting with even your own body weight, nor able to bench press the same.

Kick boxing is fine however, you will have to overcome being weak and out of shape.

oh man come on , 21 age is no problem, i ve seen many people learning /beginning mma as a just simple beginner even in 26 and shine in few years, IT justs needs practice and dedication, thats it ,

You'll be fine. 21 isn't a bad age to start.

I'm 21, male, 6 ft 3 and 100 kilo, my fitness level is about average where on many exercises at the gym I lift 25 - 35 kilo (on arms) and 60- 70 kilo (on legs) or 50 kilograms on the bench press.

I have no previous martial arts or athletic experience prior to the gym, apart from cycling.

I have been thinking about taking up Kick boxing, MMA or something simular, NOT to become a professional or start a career, but to eventually work my way up to some heavy sparring to learn how to take a hit so I know what to expect if i'm caught in a real fight, and take part in and hopefully win some competitive matches once I train enough.

My question is, I've never been hit before, will my body at this age be able to adapt to being hit if I condition myself and would it be possible for me to get strong enough over time for some high level sparring or even to go in some competitive matches?
