1) Anime is not real. You are 17 and if you still think the world depicted in an anime is anywhere near real then you are in need of a serious reality check. There are no ancient monasteries teaching martial arts with masters sprouting wisdom in Zen parables in broken English with an oriental accent. Not even the Shaolin or Wudang Temples are what it seems. There are schools in Asia just like schools in the US where martial arts are taught.
2) To live free, you free your mind first. You do that by getting the best educated you can possibly get and develop a moral core because character counts despite what pop-culture tells you.
3) This is the 21st century, not the 1st century. Without an education, your chances of living your dream life is next to zero. High school may seem like the epitome of higher education, but it is just the beginning. There is college and there is life, but without a college education in this day and age you are not going to have much of a life because you will be struggling just to make ends meet despite having a father who is willing to pay for everything. Which brings up the next point.
4) Never ever let someone else pay for your dream. Not your parents, not your best friends, not anyone. That is not living your life on your terms. That is being a parasite. Your father has or had dreams, too. Every cent he has given and spent on you this far in your life has been a sacrifice on his part. What have you done for him in return that you would want him to keep sacrificing? When does he get to reap the reward of his labor instead of handing it over to you? Instead of thinking about your life, have you ever thought about his life?
And in case it has not occurred to you, your father made his offer because of his fears that his son may die in combat should he join the Marines. He is ready to make even more sacrifices to protect you because the greatest fear of a father is that he may out live his child. Have you sat down and discuss this with him? Have you consider what happens to him if you are KIA? Take it from me, dads like yours don't grow on trees.
I can't tell you to not join the Marines CORP, but I can tell you that if you do and after you done your tour of duty you still need some means to support yourself. You could use the G.I. bill to go to college or you could use the money your dad was willing to give you, get a degree, get a job, and pay him back. You can do all that and still study martial arts, travel, learn about life, etc.
Join the marines. You'll have many more opportunities there.
If you want to just train in Asia you better also have a job to support this habit. I have done this and I have friends who do this but they don't depend on their parents to support them. Anytime you depend on someone else to support you, you are not free, you are dependent. Besides what's the matter with you that you have to have your parents support you and you can't support yourself? So either join the marines or find a job, if college is not for you. But don't be asking your parents for money all the time like a beggar. Have more self respect.
il answer with a question, leave a response please,, why do you have to go to the east to find a master to train with, what do you think you will find with regards to training with a master in another country compared to the country you live in? You'll find real deal masters all around the world if your after that kind of thing.do you have martial experience and know protocals ? what do you think you will get out of it development wise. message if you want to.
You can travel to south Korea and get a job there , you can train taekwondo there , and if you master it you will be extremely dangerous . You need about 2 years and a half to get the black belt etc ....
do nnothing. stay in your dads home and listen to him. sit on the porch at night drink beer, roast a marshmellow, and watch the stars at night
Ill be completely honest with this because I want an honest answer from someone ever since I was young ive always wanted to get stronger and find my own path I loved the idea of finding my own limits in life and breaking them, I want the power to live my life free and protect what I want to but I never took the opportunity to learn martial arts. Now I know most people will see this as great another guy but ive always loved anime and it has inspired me in many ways. I have trained my body and mind since I was 12 and im 17 now through tough training and gymnastics for flexibility and strength. I feel like an uncut diamond. I don’t hold myself high enough to think im special or talented because im not I just feel like all my training to make me stronger will help me on my path. Im almost finished with high school and the only path I found to live my life the way I want it is to join the marine core and follow that path. I have no remorse or emotion to strike another down but im bipolar in the way that the other side of me tells me to cherish every life no matter how small. I would never regret my choice and I have been thinking about the marines for a long time but recently my father presented me with a choice. And this is something I have wanted since as long as I can remember. He offered me the choice of traveling to the east to travel the land find a master martial artist who I can live with and train every day with if I can find one. He doesn’t care about money or if I choose to join a monastery but he believes I have an “old soul” because I love philosophy and im so curious about life and the meaning of it and for other reasons im not sure of. I refuse to give up when I start something that’s the type of person I am no matter if its hard or difficult I would stop at nothing to achieve if I am given the opportunity to do so and if not I will search for that opportunity. I don’t care where, china, japan, Taiwan, anywhere where I can find this opportunity I will accept and train until my body gives out. I am very found of the traditional Japanese master disciple bond I always see in anime and if anyone reading this knows about anime then think about Kenichi the mightiest disciple. Im not so stupid to consider anime to the real world but I have an ambition to get stronger no matter what im willing to scale the Himalayas to do it. Life holds so much to offer and if I follow everyone else to college and get a job I feel as if I will only be sucked in to the life everyone else follows. PLEASE if there is anyone who knows of a place where I can find a true master of any martial art and live and train no matter how hard or how long it may take please let me know.
Also if your going to respond by saying stuff like look at the real world or your dream is not possible then please don’t answer Im being honest with this and im looking for honest advice.
