That's not to say that you won't get bruises over the course of your training, but no, you won't be "beat up".
The purpose of karate class is to teach you to defend yourself. The guy who keeps scaring you may not want you to learn that.

That guy in your class is jealous and is trying to talk you out of it. That's all. Don't worry. You will like the training and they will not beat you.
I am 14 year old boy about to join karate school. A guy in my class keeps scaring me that they will beat you while teaching. He says he can guarantee i will come back crying n never join again? But i want to learn it :/
