Why is ATA a joke to many?

Can someone explain why?

The transmission from Korea was due in part to the influence of Japanese karate. Japanese karate itself had lost some of the theoretical base of Okinawan karate, which itself came from a cultural exchange with White Crane types of Fujian kung fu.

So you're not getting your money or time's worth with ATA, probably. The social and other benefits may be great for the kids, but if it is martial arts quality, it does not have a high reputation amongst other martial artists.

Well, "American" in the name and there's no such thing. They have a camouflage belt, and a lot of kids are 2nd and 3rd degree black belts. They claim to be the "best" martial art in the world. Here's another thing, they say they teach Taekwondo. Okay, have a program called "Karate for kids." If you want to join the MMA taught, you have to be 16 and a black belt in the TKD system. Look at the uniform, a sure sign. How many patches do they have?

In martial arts being a big chain is not a good thing as the quality of instructors and qualifying goes down dramatically.

It teaches inferior martial arts and is a production line of inferior martial artists who think they have ability but are lacking in all levels of skills required.

Some of the "world champions black belts" it produces would not even be blue belt material at other martial arts. Promotion of children as black belts is a sure sign of complete idiocy and inferior training.

People assume that because it's a chain it's bad.

Honestly, it could be either way.

I've seen MANY crap studios, but also some good ones.

I say judge individually.
