Hand-to-hand combat is just that...COMBAT. It's not about punching and kicking so you can say you beat somebody in a fight. It's about killing your opponent as fast as you can so you can live to see another day. If you are saying you'd rather fight a good H2H fighter then I am making the presumption you've never seen one in action. Locks and holds are not primarily life threatening, nor are pressure point control tactics, but hand-to-hand combat is designed in it's nature to be lethal. Maybe you should think again about which choice you want to make.
If their good at hand to hand contact I would assume they know how to grapple as well. If they are just a striker then yeah I would rather fight them and try to get to the ground.
