William Cheung was 46 years old and Emin Boztepe 24 at the time of the incident. That incident devalued a bit Wing Chun in the eyes of some.
He was a student of the European branch of Leung Ting's Wing Chun, (Leung Ting is calling his branch Wing Tsun, to differentiated it from the rest of Wing Chun).
The head there is Keith R. Kernspecht. The European branch has a better reputation than the actual Leung Ting's one by the way, and many good practitioners studied at that branch.
So it is like a European version of Wing Chun. Leung Ting also used that incident to market his own branch of Wing Chun as effective.
Emin Boztepe had issues with his teachers so he started his own organization. He claims to have a lot of experience in the streets, while growing up.
I saw a seminar of him once in youtube, the points that he was making were actually good. I can tell that he is quite controversial, just from watching one seminar in youtube...Lol!! and that many of his students most probably are getting slightly injured by him, in his class, but he has something to teach.

I saw that video and it illustrates just how "lacking" even the best Wing Chun fighter can be at ground fighting. Since most fights go to the ground, everyone regardless of style needs to know how to grapple. Master William Cheung got completely "dominated" when he was knocked to the ground, and Emin Boztepe wasn't even particularly skilled at ground fighting.

Boztepe would have been around 22, not a teenager, at the time he challenged Cheung.
That "Turkish guy" has not lived in Turkey since he was 4 years old. He's been a resident of Germany, then of the US. The fact that you're addressing him by his ethnicity smacks of bigotry.
Boztepe has successfully marketed himself in the West, mostly in Europe and the US. He has constantly strained relationships with his seniors, apparently over money matters.
I don't know the guy and don't study his system. He clearly does some things well (marketing) and some things not so well (interpersonal relations).
The video with him and Cheung is more a testament to how Wing Chun tends to not work as advertised more than anything else. Was Bozetep a dick for confronting a guy at a seminar? Yeah. But shouldn't a well-respecting Wing Chun "master" like Cheung have performed better?

He was definitely into the idea of trying to show like he beat the most famous wing chun man who introduced Bruce Lee to wing chun and that would be a news and that's what happened..as good becomes famous bad ones can be even better.

I heard an incident during the late 80s of wing chun teacher. William.cheung being attacked during one of his seminar in Germany from behind by a Turkish guy who I believe was a teen and cheung himself in his 40s..the guy and his group used a video recorder to tape it.later years he used that in YouTube to show himself like he beat the older teacher. The video itself looked like two kids wrestling on the floor..lmao..
Its not important who was or is this guy named boztepe jerk but its obvious that he did this coward act just to be heard and create a villain name for himself .its like today a person attacks 74 years old Bruce Lee just to be famous
