Which Martial Art should I go for?

Kyokushin Karate or Muay Thai. I understand losing faith in, say, Shotokan karate, but Kyokushin karate was designed with Muay Thai in mind (to attempt to beat it), and Kyokushin's philosophy is teasing out the actually effective techniques of Karate and just focusing on them instead of a bunch of kata.

How is any of that relavant to anything? As everyone else on this planet you are limited to what is available in your area. So start googling and go and try it out.

Firstly, your age & weight is irrelevant. Second, Mumbai has a HUGE selection of Dojo's, Kwoons & arts to choose from. Just Google "Martial arts in Mumbai" (I just got 2 million results). The question of "Which martial art should i choose" really depends on personal preferences. Most schools offer a free introductory class so it may be best to drop in and check them out yourself. That being said you do have Wing Chun, Kyokushin & Muay Thai schools nearby, all are great arts for self defense and practical use. All the best,

Effective in what way? For self-defense? For competitive sports? For fun/exercise?

As I know you quite well, I can say you want it for self-defense. Many users would suggest Krav Maga, but you don't wanna go there. It is lethal and effective all right, but you would go to jail if you use any of that **** on somebody.

It does not look like you want anything ground-based, so that eliminates BJJ. You should go for Kyokushin Karate or Muay Thai. There are plenty of schools in Mumbai, so don't worry about that.

Hope I helped.

If you don't know what schools are available in your area, how would anybody here be able to assist you? It would be pointless to get you all excited for a specific method only to have the nearest teaching facility in another continent from you.

-My Details-

Gender: Male

Age: 18

Height: 5'5"

Weight: 67 KGs (or) 147 pounds

I'm very fit. I'm not overweight one bit, in fact I'm somewhat muscular and have abs as well. I have a wide chest/shoulders, and my physique is very athletic (except for my height; I'm short). I've also always been fast and agile.

I'd like a recommendation of a martial art, for self-defense. Please recommend something that would actually be effective, and not something useless. I've lost hope for Karate. I was thinking of Muay Thai.

Also, I currently live in Mumbai, India. I don't know what schools I can find for martial arts over here.

Thanks in advance.
