Yes, it is hard to find out a Kendo club near Albany. I think you want to practice Kendo with shinai and bogu. There is a Kendo dojo (club), Meitokukan, in Schenectady. I think Meitokukan is the only place you can practice Japanese Kendo. (Ah.. there is a Kendo club at RPI as well) You can get more information at www.meitokukan.com and there is also facebook group. You will easily find it with a key word "meitokukan". I think it is closed group but you can send a message to the administrator, he will answer. Thank you. :)

There are different kenjutsu lines, hard to search for since they have different names.

You try generic Japanese swordmanship searches. Or Shinkendo's branches by Obata.

You can also try the website MeetUp to see if anyone is holding unofficial workshops around your area. Although those mostly benefit veterans.

I live near Albany NY, and I wanted to start Kendo, but I couldn't find any places nearby to start. All the places I saw were for karate or self defense, but that's not what I was looking for. So are there any places in (or near) Albany NY where I can start Kendo ?
