And is it associated with any religion/philosophy? Like Taoism is with Tai Chi?

From the Wu Dang temple, it is one of the three styles they developed... Taoism plays a major role in all there martial arts.... Taoism is also plays a role in Chinese Buddhism... any thing that uses Yin/ Yang is based on Taoist philosophy... be it from Wu Dang, Shaolin or out side of these temples...

Yin-Yang is part of Taoist or Daoist philosophy, NEVER Buddhist, thus, it is not part of the Shaolin (Ch'an Buddhism) belief system. Wudang, though is a major Daoist religious site, is not the only site. There are major Daoist temples in Ermei and in Szechuan, where there are martial arts separate from Wudang and Shaolin are being practiced. Daoism did not play a major role in Chinese Buddhism, be it Esoteric, Ch'an, or Pureland variety. However, it is the other way round with Chinese Buddhist iconic figures being accorded a place within the Daoist patheon.
