Yeah, it's called fencing and kendo and kenjutsu and iado and iajutsu and jian and Chinese broad sword and on and on and none of the way you use the sword is the same.
Just because it's long and has one or two edges does not make it the same. Even the lengths vary. So first you need to decide what it is you want to learn and then find a teacher who teaches it. There are usually schools that teach different Japanese swordsmanships and European fencing specifically. For Chinese swordsmanship you would go to a Chinese martial arts school and they usually teach you without a sword first to condition you and to learn agility and flexibility before they give you a sword.
It's called "Fencing"
The best thing to do is join a fencing club; there will be one near you even if you've not heard of one.
You will then have the right equipment and be taught all the correct and safe moves.
How can you learn on line if you don't have anyone to fence against!
It depends on the sword and its application. Look up fencing for stabbing techniques. Kendo for 2 hand techniques, and capoferro for 2 hand slashing techniques. You can likely find fencing and kendo classes too.
i have been wanting to learn how to use a sword with the right techniques. i was wondering if there was any way to watch videos online or anything else? (i couldn't find much anywhere)
