most ww2 katana were mass produced, there quality is not the same as other era's. they are not worth much they usually go for around $50 or so.

That sounds like a bada$$ collection if you get it going. I would check eBay frequently and look for ones that have a lot of pictures that really give you an idea of the condition. Katanas are made with carbon steel, so learn the difference between rust and patina. Rust will actually damage the steel and can literally eat holes in it but a patina (looks like darkening basically, not actual rust) actually protects the blade from more harmful corrosion and can be polished off if you send the sword to a professional.

And keep in mind that this isn't REALLY a Martial Arts related question. It's more miscellaneous. I really like old WWII era stuff and used to collect some of it myself. I wouldn't expect many people in this section to be very helpful when it comes to the topic of collecting, though.

A gunto isn't a hand made katana to begin with.
