What is this flip called? (backflip while body twirls 180)?

One Eight twist.

A front somersault with a half twist is called a barani. The twist should occur in the last half of the move, i.e. it is supposed to be an aerial twist generated by "borrowing" somersault rotation, not by twisting in to the somi. It is easier to learn a tucked or piked barani first because you can use the action of kicking out to generate the twist.

A back somersault with a half twist would be called a half-twisting back somersault or a back half but someone would only do that as a progression towards learning a full (full twisting straight back somersault) because it is a blind landing so it would not be put in a routine. That is why the word "full" can be unambiguously used to describe a full twisting straight back somi since no one would do a full twisting front somi (except in building up to Rudi which is front somersault with 1 1/2 twist out) because it has a blind landing.

Either way it really isn't something you can self teach. A barani is not a basic move, you have to have a really nice front somersault without travel and with phasing before you learn that and it helps a lot if you can do late twisting cradle (back drop half twist to back drop) because that is also an aerial twist. It makes way more sense to learn to do an aerial twist in a cradle before you try to do it a somersault. If you want to learn this type of stuff and be able to do it well and safely then you need to join a proper class.

So basically you do a backflip or frontflip but you body spins 180 sideways so for a backflip landing what be 180 to the starting stance (don't ...

Holy epic fail answers. Zoe you are clearly not a gymnast. This is a front not a back. There are a couple of variations in this video all are half twists variants.

The proper name would be a front X twist. X being the number of twists.

You're 180 in this context would be a front half

Here is a walk through

I think it would be called a back half twist, or maybe a back layout half twist. However I wouldn't recommend looking up a tutorial and trying to learn how to do this without proper experience, or someone to spot you as you could get really badly injured...

They are still called twists.

More like this?

a misty flip is what snowboarders and skateboarders call it... in gymnastics I think a flip with a half virile..

It's a gymnastics flip sorta I guess im trying to look up a tutorial for how to do it on yt but i can't figure out the name of it. So basically you do a backflip or frontflip but you body spins 180 sideways so for a backflip landing what be 180 to the starting stance (don't confuse it with a side flip) your body does complete a backflip but spins horizontally

It's kinda similar to the mctwist which is a snowboarding trick

Thanks!

heres a video of a guy doing it. except he does multiple twists while again i just want to do a simple 180
