What classes should I take for self defense?

Listening to the general talk is always misleading. The 80/20 rule applies to most things. It applies very well to general talk by the average so called know-it-all about martial arts. The 80/20 rule states that 80% of all comments come from people that know little about what tye are talking about. Of the 20% that is lefty only a few have a really strong knowledge that they can share with others. So bottom line here is you need to stop listening to what people say the people talking are not authorities on anything martial arts. My belief is that in your situation if someone has less than 20 years of serious martial arts training their comments are not worth much.

Now lets straighten out a few things. Krav Maga is not a martial art. It is a self-defense system. The difference is a fighting system can be learned in a fairly short time. KM is taught to the Israeli Military. They have limited time to learn it so it must be simple and quick to learn and be effective. Any fighting system or martial art if taught as it should be will supply everything you could possibly need. You do not need to jump for style to style being a technique collector.

The most importrant factor is choosing the right instructor not the style. There are good and bad instructors in every style. There are many instructors out there teaching many different styles. Most, and I mean most, are poorly trained themselves. If they are not trained well then they can;t possibly train their students to be better. Also most martial arts schools exist only to make a profit. Many have watered down or left out much of their style so more people will like it and train with them. If they sell contracts walk away. If they tell you that you can be a certain belt level in X amount of time walk away. If they have children black belts, walk away. If you follow that you will eliminate probably 9 out of every 10 schools. Of the few left you might have a good instructor/style/school.

Krav maga is not the best martial art for self defense nor is the keysi fighting method

I'd be checking to see if any of them are available to you before getting your hopes up.

Shop around until you've seen everything in your area, decide what is the best school available to you and learn whatever they're teaching.

Hi,

I recommend this family self defence program that teaches how to win and dominate a violent situation on the street or in your home http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=563

Kick boxing or Kajukenbo.

Muay thai is pretty cool

thai boxing

I'm wanting to join Krav maga and a little keysi fighting method those two are some of the best martial arts oh can't forget muay thai but I keep searching and mostly comments say krav maga is the best self defense method. But I'm having a hard time deciding.

Also what do you do in those classes?

Should I enter gymnastics?

Thanks for the answers
