When I was there martial arts was not popular at all. It simply did not fit the culture. Things have changed in the past few years and martial arts has gained more popularity. I do know of judo, karate, Shaolin Kung Fu, BJJ, Taek Won Do, Kickboxen, Wing Tsun and Thai boxen (Muay Thai) schools there being pretty popular. Taiji and Aikido is I think the most popular and fits the culture more. They also like self defense courses a lot.
