Weight advice for BJJ tournament?

Are you competing in the Pan Ams by chance? This is definitely something you want to ask your coach. You'll have an advantage if you compete in the lower weight class.

Cutting weight to fast can deplete you of necessary hydration which will decrease your stamina. My recommendation would be to fight "up" and just trust in your training. JiuJitsu is a matter of patience and opportunity, and there are times you can shift or move to give your opponent the idea they can go for a move, and all the while you are looking to take that opportunity and exploit it.

I love grappling.

What shaeeck said generally but 7 pounds is a light easy cut. Lighter is typically better.

Depends how confident you are in your skills, For me personally i would fight up a weight class but i know i could handle that, to me it would depend how good you are?

Depend on which martial association your persing for.

Hello everyone. I have my first BJJ tournament this Saturday. I've been training since January 2011 and am a blue belt, but I've never done a tournament before. This one however is to the tap so I figured I couldn't pass it up!

Anyway, I currently weight 193 pounds, so I was planning on competing in the 186-205 pound weight class. I was just looking over the list of competitors, and it turns out there is no one else in my division, in either gi or no gi. The class above me is 205+, and the class below is a 186 limit. So my question to you is this: would you try cutting 7 pounds before the weigh in Friday night, or would you deal with being bumped up to 205+? I'm leaning toward 205+, because cutting 7 pounds in 2 days seems like a dangerous thing to do that could affect my performance, but I figured I'd get some advice first. Besides, I don't really care about size, that's not what BJJ is about.

Side question, do most people try to be at the limit of their weight for these tournaments like in MMA, or do they just weigh in and compete at whatever they weigh?

Anyway, thanks in advance, and feel free to give any additional first-tournament advice!
