Tips for beginning BJJ?

As Joseph said, just join. You don't need to do anything special to get ready. I joined at 19, and I was out of shape. Did I struggle at first? Yeah, I did, but then I lost weight and I got better at it.

My tip to you is: Drop whatever ego you have, and prepare to get your a$$ kicked for a straight year. Starting BJJ is the hardest part. You want to be good, but you get beat up by people half yours size. It's frustrating, but you'll learn so much from the experience, and then eventually it'll be you beating up on the n00bs, and then you'll set your sights on higher belts.

It's incredibly rewarding and I hope you stick with it. Good luck

Try not to exert your muscle power to oppose the enemy's muscle power. That'll only work against newbies or people weaker than you.

Later on, that'll be a problem. Also, since brute strength can give people tap outs in BJJ against unskilled users, you are going to face a few of these people whether you like it or not.

Listening through your skin for incoming force, allows leverages to be used. Leverages don't require exceedingly powerful muscular pulley contractions. But brute force is easier to use in the beginning, while knowledge of leverage comes only with wisdom and experience.

Just join! Don't worry about working out before or anything cause it's gonna get you in shape! Just get your foot in the door and HAVE FUN!

if youre a male I would sugest obviously working out and the main thing is being comfortable being REALLY close with other guys. just remember its martial arts and that theyre thinking about taking you down, not your junk lol

I was gonna start getting into BJJ I was just wondering what I should do to get prepared for it. I know running would be good. Also what would your opinion be on a 16(me) joining BJJ. Thanks for you input!!!
