Dan-dao or broad-sword has 2 primary designs. The one that was shown wielded by Jin is one design. The other design is called 'liu-yeah' dan-dao or willow-leaf broad sword which is the common one that one can find from martial arts shop. I do not know what that dan-dao that Jin used is called. But, when the handle is longer enabling it to be used with both hands, it becomes the da-dao, 'big broad sword' used by the Chinese infantry fighting the Japanese. And, if the handle is further lengthened and the weapon becomes a 'long' broad sword, it is called 'kan-ma' dao or 'horse-killing' sword, a weapon devised for the foot-soldiers fighting the calvary.

what is the name of the sword on Ip Man that Jin (the northerner) uses? It looks like a dadao but the shape is different to ones I see for sale. Does it have a certain model name or was that sword made specifically for that movie?
