The Trisection staff...?

Legit weapon or for demos only? Knowledge on it? (as not many seem to be experienced with it). Is it more similar to a bo or a nunchaku?

All depends on how you train and what you train as it is with all martial art. You can practice all kinds of flashy moves with the 3 section staff for demos, or you can practice real application which is dry and doesn't look as cool.

It is very different than a bo as is it partially flexible and takes a lot more coordination and the practitioner becoming part of the weapon and flowing with the weapons movements rather than just swinging it and hitting, if that makes sense. It is also different than the nunchaku since first it has one more section and the sections are also so much longer it makes the weight distribution a lot different resulting into movements generating power differently than you would with a smaller weapon.

BTW this is for the Chinese version of it since Kokoro covered the Okinawan version.

it is an actual weapon. the chinese one is almost 6 feet long. i would say its closer to a nunchaku, and tanbo, then a bo. it des have some unique applications. im working with the okinawan version of it which is much shorter, each section is only about a foot rather then two feet making the over all weapon just over three feet in length. in okinawan its call a sunsetsu no kon. they also have a yonsetsu kon and a gosetsu no kon ( 4 and 5 section staffs) as well as a few other odd type sectional weapons

I've tried to use one and it had sleeves that allowed you to create a staff but I found using it like a staff to be a bit unpredictable because the sleeves didn't lock. The guy who owned it used like a combination of arnis sticks, a spear and some kind of rope or chain weapon - to be honest I'd even go so far as to say he used any element from any weapon he could replicate with it...trying to compare it to just one or two just didn't work.

OMG i dont know much about these weapons, sorry i cant help but omg they are freaking amazing, i love watching them and it is something i will eventually get around to learning one day
