Taekwondo Black belt test - how long should they be?

By "meditation" to they mean "sleeping"?

I think my black belt (karate) test started at 10pm and lasted until after the sun rose the next day; being autumn. it was probably no earlier than 8am. We ran through our complete syllabus, did a bunch of sparring, some breaking, and a bunch of calisthenics. There were a few breaks, but no more than 10 minutes, I think. In fairness, it was years ago, so it's hard to recall. I want to say there were five or six people testing, though.

So it isn't inconceivable, though I agree it's unlikely.

My instructor's lasted 10 hours.

I agree that this amount of time in one go is excessive and ridiculous, (probably not to mention quite dangerous).

The black belt testing at my academy is 5 hours, which is bad enough... But 12? Not a chance.

This sounds a lot like hazing. It could also be a lot of rhetoric, to get students to train more. What do other students who've tested have to say?

I've heard of long tests before. But a good instructor should be able to know minutes into the test whether or not you know your material. I get all the reasons for having tests - and I agree with many of them - but if it takes 12 hours, then the instructor is looking for something that's got little to do with martial arts.

That sounds like total BS to me. And to be clear on this, meditation is not a part of most martial arts. And even if it was 12 hours of meditation is just stupid. Yes, switch schools.....!

...

I am seriously worried about my upper arm length

My instructor claims his test is over 12 hours long. HMMM.... That sounds like pure nonsense.

In addition to the normal test there is 12 hours of mediation. I think this is ridiculous.

I am considering switching school for others reasons too.
